Accessibility at Rottnest Cruises

Rottnest Cruises is committed to a safe and enjoyable experience for every guest. Below you will find everything you need to know about accessibility when joining our seafood lunch cruise on Rottnest Island.

Most guests travel to the island by ferry, which is the most accessible way to get here.

Getting to Rottnest Island

As our cruise departs from Rottnest Island, all guests first travel to the island by ferry. Each ferry operator offers different levels of accessibility, so please check their websites for the latest details:

  • Rottnest Express: rottnestexpress.com.au/accessibility
  • Sealink Rottnest: sealink.com.au/rottnest-island/accessibility
  • Rottnest Fast Ferries: rottnestfastferries.com.au/accessibility

We recommend contacting your ferry provider before you travel to confirm accessible boarding and onboard facilities.

Our Jetty

Our cruise departs from the Main Jetty (also known as the Thomson Bay Fuel Jetty) on Rottnest Island.

The jetty is flat and accessible by wheelchair or mobility aid, with no steps or steep inclines between the Rottnest Island Visitor Centre and our departure point.

Boarding and Moving Around the Vessel

To board and move around the vessel, guests need to be able to manage:

  • an angled boarding ramp with handrails
  • a ladder-style staircase with handrails to the upper deck
  • a narrow walkway with guardrails to the bow

As we cruise on the open ocean, guests also need to be able to stay steady on moving water. We never head out in unsafe conditions, although passing vessels can create wake.

Owing to the jetty and ramp configuration, wheelchairs and walkers cannot be used when boarding the vessel. If anyone in your group has special mobility requirements, please call our booking office on +61 8 9586 1136 to discuss whether this cruise is suitable.

Ticketing and Check-in

Tickets can be booked online using the Book Now button at the top of our website. There is no separate office to visit, as our crew will check you in at the jetty before boarding.

If you need help booking online or have an accessibility question, please call us on +61 8 9586 1136 or email hello@rottnestcruises.com.

Accessible Toilets

Public accessible toilets are located near the main settlement, a short, flat walk from the departure jetty.

Our vessel, Crusader III, has toilets on board, although the vessel is not fully wheelchair accessible due to its design.

Hearing Support

If you are hard of hearing, please let our crew know so they can position themselves to help with hearing or lip reading.

A printed copy of the cruise commentary is available on request. Please contact us at least 48 hours before your cruise so we can arrange it.

Visual Impairment

If you would like guided boarding or help with seating, please let us know when booking.

Service dogs are permitted on Rottnest Island. As the island is a Class A Reserve, please contact the rangers on (+61 8) 9372 9788 before your visit to let them know you are bringing a service dog.

To bring a service dog on board, please contact our reservations team on +61 8 9586 1136 or hello@rottnestcruises.com before booking.

Dietary Requirements

Our seafood lunch is freshly prepared on board and includes Western Rock Lobster and other premium WA seafood.

With advance notice, we can cater for vegetarian, non-seafood, halal and gluten-free diets. Please let us know your requirements when booking.

Owing to limited cooking space on board, we regretfully cannot accommodate anaphylactic or severe food allergies of any kind.

Sensory Considerations

Our vessel is open and bright, with background music and commentary. We do not currently offer a designated low-sensory environment on our cruises.

If you are sensitive to sensory stimuli, a mid-week departure may suit you best, as guest numbers can be lower.

Companion Cards

Companion Cards are accepted by our sister company, Mandurah Cruises, on their Dolphin Cruise and Views tour. Please call our office on +61 8 9586 1136 to book.

Is This Cruise Right for You?

Our vessel has wide decks, rails and helpful crew. Moving around on the open ocean and using the ladder stairs does require stability and mobility, so this cruise is not suitable for guests with limited stability or mobility.

If you have any stability or mobility concerns, please contact us so we can confirm suitability and help with arrangements.

Our sister company, Mandurah Cruises, offers alternative options: the Murray River Lunch Cruise (a 4-hour lunch cruise) and the Dolphin Cruise and Views tour.

Have a question, or would like to talk through your needs? Our team would love to help make your Rottnest Island experience unforgettable. Call us on +61 8 9586 1136 or email hello@rottnestcruises.com.
